Women Empowerment

Gender equality becomes achievable only if women become aware of gender rights and what it means for gender-based violence. NCT conducts a series of educative seminars and workshops along with group discussions to help women become sensitized on gender rights and become aware of how their rights are violated. Enabling women to become powerful agents of change within their communities is crucial to our mission. The objective is to enhance the capacity of communities by integrating women’s empowerment into development processes.

Education and women’s empowerment is one of NCT’s main focuses. For NCT, women empowerment means Education coupled with economic empowerment. Therefore, we train illiterate/ early school dropped out women and adolescent girls in ‘Functional Literacy’ – everyday simple calculations and reading and writing. In order to have long-term impacts on personal and family economic sustainability and better livelihood, NCT trains women in employable skills training and supports them with livelihood programmes.

Within the concept of women empowerment, NCT gives greater emphasis to victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

Domestic Violence: Violence against women remains devastatingly pervasive and starts alarmingly young. While the low level of educative knowledge on the legal and support systems pertaining to women contributes to widespread gender-based violence (GBV) against women, the lack of gender sensitivity among public servants makes it hard to access justice.

NCT’s objective is to provide comprehensive, collaborative and innovative services for every woman affected by domestic and sexual violence while passionately working to end this epidemic. We are committed to treating the entire cycle of domestic violence through programs and services designed to PREVENT violence, PROTECT victims, and EMPOWER survivors.

Through our programs, we’ve been able to help communities achieve greater economic independence, improvements in health and wellness, as well as protection from domestic violence and human trafficking.

Some specific projects NCT implements towards women empowerment:

  • Campaigns, sensitization seminars and workshops on gender rights for stakeholders
  • Advocacy and campaigns against domestic violence and victim-based support systems
  • Awareness programs on child labour, child marriages, and human trafficking.
  • Healthcare education, with a specific focus on menstrual hygiene
  • Advanced employable skills training.
